[Intro]
| C | G | D | G |

[Verse]
G
Turpentine and dandelion wine
G7 C
I've turned the corner, I'm doin' fine
C G
Shootin' at the birds on the telephone line
D G
Pickin' them off with this gun o' mine
C G
I got a fire in my belly and a fire in my head
D G
Growing higher and higher 'till I'm dead

[Verse]
G
Sister Sue she's short and stout
G7 C
She didn't grow up, she grew out
C G
Mama thinks she's pretty, but she's just being kind
D G
Papa thinks she's lovely, and he's half blind
C G
We don't let her out much except at night
D G
But I don't care 'cause I'm all right

[Interlude]
| C | G | D | G |

[Chorus]
G C G
Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home
G D
Where the young folks play on the floor
G C G
Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home
G D G
Keep them mad times away from my door

[Verse]
G
Brother Gene, he's big and mean
G7 C
And he don't have much to say
C G
He had a little woman that he whooped each day
D G
But now she's gone away
C G
Got drunk last night, kicked mama down the stairs
D G
But I'm all right, so I don't care

[Chorus]
G C G
Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home
G D
Where the young folks play on the floor
G C G
Oh, the sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home
G D G
Keep the mad times away from my door

[Outro]
G C G
Mmmm mmmm mmmm mmm
G D C G
Mmmm mmmm mmm mmm mmmm

(fade)
