Wellingtons Wednesdays

by The Weakerthans
The Weakerthans

Biography:

The Weakerthans is a Canadian indie rock/folk band headed by former Propagandhi member, John K. Samson and also comprising guitarist Stephen Carroll, bassist Greg Smith, and drummer Jason Tait. The band last released an album, Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre, in 2010. Since 2015, the band has been on hiatus.

The band's blend of punk-inflected folk rock with literate, witty, introspective lyrics have made them one of the most popular bands on the Canadian music scene.

[Verse 1]
E B F#m A
The night's a spill, a permanent stain; the city soaks in silence, salt and dirty snow
E B F#m A
A blue glow from the tv again, the curtains never open, faces never show
E B F#m A
And every time a light is turned on there's a light that's turned off somewhere
E B F#m A
For every moment that's lost there's a perfect cost, there's a debt you can't share

F#m B E A F#m B
Clocks stopped at the corner of Albert will show your last bus left an hour ago
E B F#m A E B F#m A
so stumble down the stairs again, pretend you're not too proud
E B F#m A F#m A
to understand and still know when your voice cuts through the crowd
E A E A
that lonely people talk too loud

[Verse 2]
E B F#m A
The night's a spill, a permanent stain; the city soaks in silence, salt and dirty snow
E B F#m A
A blue glow from the tv again, the curtains never open, faces never show
E B F#m A
And every night they play the same song to the same offbeat believers
E B F#m A
And everyone is singing along wearing blueblack eyes, wearing dead men's neck-ties

[Bridge]

Numbers on a washroom stall

There's always more then one last call calling you
