The Weakerthans

Our Retired Explorer Dines With Michael Foucault In Paris 1961

by The Weakerthans
The Weakerthans

Biography:

The Weakerthans is a Canadian indie rock/folk band headed by former Propagandhi member, John K. Samson and also comprising guitarist Stephen Carroll, bassist Greg Smith, and drummer Jason Tait. The band last released an album, Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre, in 2010. Since 2015, the band has been on hiatus.

The band's blend of punk-inflected folk rock with literate, witty, introspective lyrics have made them one of the most popular bands on the Canadian music scene.

Four years of hard work!

This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!

Standard tuning, capo on the first fret. All chords relative to capo.

I've watched several videos of the Weakerthans playing this. Live they play it in D, capo 3, which is the
same key, but they use really odd chord voicings. This will sound very close, but not 100%.

E5 - x799xx
E/Eb - x699xx

[Verse]

E
Just one more drink and then I
N.C.
should be on my way home.

I'm not entirely sure
E
what you're talking about.
B
I've had a really nice time,
A E
but my dogs need to be fed.
B
I must say that in the right light,
A

B
Yes, a penguin taught me French
A E
back in Antarctica.

[Verse]

Oh, I could show you the way
N.C.
shadows colonize snow.
N.C.
Ice breaking up on the bay
E
off the Lassiter coast.
B
Light falling over the pole
A E
as every longitude leads
B
up to your frostbitten feet.
A
Oh, you're very sweet,

[Chorus]

E B
thank you for the flowers
A E
and the book by Derrida,
B A E
but I must be getting back to dear Antarctica.
