The Vulgar Boatmen

Margaret Says

by The Vulgar Boatmen
The Vulgar Boatmen

Biography:

Pop with a delicate, intricate, urgency. Great melodies with point in time storied lyrics make the Boatmen a long time regional favorite in the midwest. Started as a Florida band, then two bands, one in Florida and the other in Indiana, Dale Lawrence now leads the only version left from Indiana. Rumors of record re-issues abound, catch them live when you can, the full band shows rock harder than the records, acoustic outings show off the poignant lyrics.

G
Margaret's friends come in

Margaret's friends sit down
C
I say 'hello' in French

They think I've been around

And we're starting to play

I'm feeling down on my luck

I win a couple of rounds

Don't think it means too much

G
And I'm supposed to be thinking about the rest of my life
C
I'm supposed to be thinking about the rest of my life
G
I'm looking forward to this

She says 'ready to ride'
C
With a hat on her head tilted over her eyes

D
All these steps I'm taking
Em G
Pictures of my family
C D
That's what Margaret says
G C
When she talks to me

G
Margaret shakes her head

Puts her foot down
C
Says she won't go alone not even to town

And then she changes her mind

Whispers right in my ear

Sounding very contrite

Sounding very sincere
