The Thermals

An Ear For Baby

by The Thermals
The Thermals

Biography:

The Thermals were a pop-punk trio from Portland, Oregon. The band was formed in 2002 and released seven records and toured at least fifteen countries.

The Thermals' sixth LP and debut for Saddle Creek, Desperate Ground, was produced by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth) in Hoboken, NJ. Agnello and The Thermals completed the record and evacuated the studio just hours before Hurricane Sandy ravaged New Jersey, a fate quite fitting when you consider the product.

Pull out your dead roots,
G

D G
It's time to inspect the subjects.

Lose your intentions,
G
Lose all your common sense, it's
E A
Time to groom you for judgment.

D
Stick to a numb stare,
G
Strip to your underwear.
D G
It's time for you to be cleansed.

D
Keep your eyes straight,
G
For Christ's sake,
E A
Remember we're your friends!

Pre-Chorus:

A D
Good luck getting over the fence.
A D
Good luck putting even a dent in

Am7
The mission,
G
The plan
A
Just breathe,
G A
You don't need to understand.

Chorus:

D
Can you hear me?
A
The siren's on.
Bm
Let the water run,
G A
Leave the lights on.

D E
An ear for baby if you need it.
F#m
Can you hear me?
G A
I'll repeat it.

Verse 2 (same chords as Verse 1):

Draw the bridges,
Dig the ditches deep.
We're gonna need a new border.

Get thyself in line,
It's time for reassignment. It's
Time for a new first world order.

We got a job to do,
We don't ask, we tell you.
Work is freedom.
Sloth is sin.

So pull out your dead roots,
Pull out your best suit.
You know, the one they're gonna
Bury you in.

Pre-Chorus 2 (same chords as Pre-Chorus 1):

Good luck getting God on the phone.
Good luck getting even a tone.

You can trust me,
It's not a test,
And I won't
Leave you in this mess. Any questions?
(You, in the back.)

Chorus 2 (same chords as Chorus 1):

Can you hear me?
The siren's on.
Let the water run,
Leave the lights on.

An ear for baby if you need it.
Can you hear me?
I'll repeat it.
