The Swirling Eddies

Outdoor Elvis

by The Swirling Eddies
The Swirling Eddies

Biography:

The Swirling Eddies are a band that began as an anonymous spinoff from the band Daniel Amos, along with new drummer David Raven.

For each Swirling Eddies release, band members adopted pseudonyms for the liner notes; "Camarillo Eddy" (Terry Scott Taylor), "Berger Roy Al" (Tim Chandler), "Gene Pool" (Greg Flesch), "Arthur Fhardy" (Rob Watson), "Spot" (Jerry Chamberlain), "Hort Elvison" (David Raven) and, on later albums, "Prickly Disco" (Gene Eugene). These pseudonyms were dropped for their third album, Zoom Daddy.

[Verse]

B
out there where the air is clean
B
the red woods high, and the grass is green
E
people tell me they have seen
B
a giant footprint
B
is he fishing and skiing and hunting duck
B
with a guitar, shotgun, and a pick-up truck?
E
well, with any kind of luck
B
we'll photograph him

[Chorus]

F# E B
oh, oh, come again outdoor elvis
F# E B
be our friend, save us outdoor elvis

[Verse 2]

B
the world has hope 'cause he's feelin' good
B
escaped the city, lives in the woods
E
this is the spot i think he stood
B
here's a giant footprint
B
a plaster cast where the pilgrims flock
B
and ticket lines around the block
E
if we don't have the king what have we got?
B
life don't make no sense

[Chorus]

F# E B
oh, oh, come again outdoor elvis
F# E B
be our friend, save us outdoor elvis
F# E B
we have sinned, forgive us outdoor elvis

[Bridge]

Em B
we'll build a shrine among the pines to you
Ebm B
we might have to set a trap to bring him back
Ebm
dead or alive, if we want to survive
Em B Em B
we gotta' bring him back (bring him back)
Em B
oh, oh, oh, oh

[Verse 3]

B
in his fishin' vest and his silver cape
B
i'll bet he's really looking great
E
you can pretty much tell that he's lost weight
B
from the depth of his footprint
B
it's said he croons when the moon's above
B
singing tenderly, "hunk a burnin' love"
E
it's nice to know he's still got his stuff hasn't
B
lost the accent

[Chorus]

F# E B
oh, oh, come again outdoor elvis
F# E B
be our friend, save us outdoor elvis
F# E B
we have sinned, forgive us outdoor elvis

[Bridge]

Em Em B
we'll build a shrine among the pines to you
Em Em B
('till the end of time we'll stand in this line for you)
Em Em B
o.e. o.e. we look for a sign from you

[Outro]

B
we might have to set a trap
B
dead or alive, we'll bring him back
