The Siddeleys

My Favourite Wet Wednesday Afternoon

by The Siddeleys
The Siddeleys

Biography:

Jangle pop cult heroes the Siddeleys formed in London in the spring of 1986 after singer/guitarist Johnny Johnson gave a tape of her home-recorded songs to fellow guitarist Allan Kingdom. After posting flyers seeking rhythm section recruits in the Rough Trade Shop, the Ladbroke Grove club Bay 63, and other area locales, Johnson and Kingdom inducted bassist Andrew Clark and drummer Phil Goodman prior to the Siddeleys' debut gig at the Clarendon Ballroom on December 1, 1986.

The sight of the façade of the Palace Hotel, Southend

This is just a fraction of what is rightfully ours

Please whirl me around

There's no earthly reason

For darkness after dawn

It's not that I want to be rich, I just want to be heroically poor

Money may buy happiness, but you can give me more

I want back my favourite wet Wednesday afternoon

For a boy to burn

The Peak Frean's factory pumping smoke reminds me of the past
C Am G G
Of waking up quite terrified, of always coming last

Are you, like me, looking up at the sky?
C Am
Or do you look down as you read?
C Am G G
"The red apples are the sweetest," he said, but green is the colour for me

There is no earthly reason

For rotting fruit to fall

The smell of chips on a summer evening in Southend -

With every sense I think of you, it sends me round the bend
