The Secret Sisters

Tennessee River Runs Low

by The Secret Sisters
The Secret Sisters

Biography:

The Secret Sisters are real life sisters Laura and Lydia Rogers from Alabama who specialize in pop and country harmonies. Their sound is reminscent of the 40s and 50s decades of American music, so it is not surprising that their debut album contains cover versions of several classics from that period.

[Intro]
Bm/F# (single stroke)

Bm/F# E Bm/F#
If I were born to be a river
Bm/F# E Bm/F#
If a river is all I'd be
Em F# Bm/F# E
I'd tell the giver of all of the rivers
Bm/F# F# Bm/F#
to make me the Tennessee

[Verse 1]
Bm/F# Em
How many drops of rain roll off of how many window panes
F#
down to a valley low where a river like me begins to grow
Bm/F# Em
I sing a mournful song as I rush and ramble along
F# Bm/F#
oh di oh di oh di o di o di o di o

[Verse 3]
Bm/F# Em
I bury secrets deep I keep them down where the catfish creep
F#
where the rolling tide can't reach the things that I hide
Bm/F# Em
I hum a mournful tune in the Alabama June
F# Bm/F#
oh di oh di oh di o di o di o di o

[Chorus]
F# Bm/F# F# Bm/F# F# Bm/F#
I say oh di di di di oh do do do do oh oh oh oh oh even the Tennessee river runs low

[Bridge]
Em
When the sky is bright and clear
Bm/F#
not a cloud above you
Em
you can float in knowing dear
F#
that I was made to love you

Em
When the storm is raging
Bm/F#
All the light is fading
Em
The river sings along with me
F#
reaching for that minor key

[Verse 4]
Bm/F# Em
Colour me blue and grey river carry me fast away
F#
Flood all the rocks and rills humble the mighty hill
Bm/F# Em
I am the Tennessee, see you down at the stormy sea
F# Bm/F#
oh di oh di oh di o di o di o di o

[Chorus]
F# Bm/F# F# Bm/F# F# Bm/F#
I say oh di di di di oh do do do do oh oh oh oh oh even the Tennessee river runs low
F# Bm/F#
The Tennessee river runs low
F# Bm/F#
Even the Tennessee river runs low
