[Verse]

G
I’ve been hanging up the laundry

Fixing my husband’s lunch
C
Mom and Dad’s working the garden

And I’ve got a hunch

That I’ve died and gone to heaven

I think it because
C
This is the best that it ever was

It’s the last song of the evening
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
Everything turned out alright

It’s the last song of the evening
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
It’s the last song of the night

[Verse]

G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D
I raised three healthy boys and very little hell
C
I was a country girl, but I lived to tell
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D
About riveting bombers during World War Two
C
I met a blue-eyed man who thought I hung the moon
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D
He carved me a heart out of a walnut tree
C
He loved me, he loved me

[Chorus]

G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
It’s the last song of the evening
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
Everything turned out alright
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
Love came down and found me
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
Now it’s the last song of the night

It’s getting late, that’s what the weatherman said

C
But I’ll be waking up in a carpenter’s arms
G
My children’s children won’t miss me that’s true
C
But I guess I did what I came here to do

It’s the last song of the evening
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
Everything turned out alright
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
It’s the last song of the evening
G Gmaj7/F# Em7 D C
