The Ozark Mountain Daredevils

Walkin Down The Road

by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils
The Ozark Mountain Daredevils

Biography:

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils are a Southern rock band formed in 1971 at Springfield, Missouri. They are most widely known for their singles "If You Wanna Get To Heaven" in 1973 and "Jackie Blue" in 1974.

According to the book, It Shined, by Michael Granda, the band name was derived from "Cosmic Corn Cob & His Amazing Ozark Mountain Daredevils", a name that John Dillon came up with at a Kansas City "naming party" after the band was told that the name they had previously been using, "Family Tree", was already taken.

WALKIN DOWN THE ROAD
OZARK MOUNTAIN DAREDEVILS

[E] well, I'm walkin' down the road
with my hat on my head
had to [G] leave my mama
in my big brass bed
well, [A] sun is shinin' on me
and you know it sure feels [E] fine

[E] Lord, I made it to the station
with my suitcase in my hand
[G] walked up to the window
like a nat'ral born man
said I [A] sure do hope that
choo-choo train runs on [E] time
(choo-choo, choo-choo)
Lord, I [Bm] sure do hope
that choo-choo train runs on [E] time

[E] well, these two dollar shoes
Lord, they hurt my feet
but that [G] fifty-cent liquor
well it could not be beat
and I [A] see no reason
reason to be [E] sad

[E] cause I'm goin' where them cold
cold winds don't blow
where the [G] streams and rivers
Lord, they all run slow
ain't no [A] use in cryin
cryin over what you [E] had
Lord, [Bm] ain't no use in cryin,
cryin over what you [E] had

E G A E
