Institutionalized Misogyny

This song is in C#, but some of the guitar was played as though in G with a capo on the
fret (if you can believe that) while some was played as though in C with the capo on the
fret. The true chords are below, with the fingered chords (in G) in brackets.

C# [G] F# [C] C# [G] F# [C]
I'm not complaining, I'm just figuring out

C# [G] G# [D] C# [G]
how everything left us behind

C# [G] F# [C] C# [G]
I got my problems, I'm aware of them

F# [C] C# [G] G# [D] C# [G]
I'll take care of them, never you mind

F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B] D#m7 [Am7]
you're still repeating pre-recorded things

G#6 [D6] F#9 [C9]
they used to say in universities

C#/F bass [G/B] D#m7 [Am7] G# [D]
and books on left wing politics and law

F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B]
about underlying structures

D#m7 [Am7] G#6 [D6]
that so far as they mean anything

F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B]
still won't support the personal

D#m7 [Am7] C# [G]
connections that you draw

C# [G] F# [C] G# [D] C# [G]
In sti tutional ized

C# [G] C#/C bass [G/F# bass] Bbm [Em] G# [D]
mis o gy ny

C# [G] F7 [B7] F# [C] C#dim [Gdim]
that's all that stands between

C# [G] G# [D] F# [C] C# [G]
my baby and me

C# [G] F# [C] C# [G] F# [C] C# [G]
now science tells us I'm hard-wired to, I'm required to

G# [D] C# [G]
do it with you

C# [G] F# [C] C# [G]
'cause I'm a man, and you're a woman

F# [C] C# [G] G# [D] C# [G]
and that's what those kind of people do

F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B]
I stole that line from Woody Allen

D#m7 [Am7] G#6 [D6]
isn't it amusing

F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B]
I wish I could make you understand

D#m7 [Am7] G# [D]
what Woody Allen meant.

F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B] D#m7 [Am7]
If there's no such thing as objective reality

G#6 [D6] F#9 [C9] C#/F bass [G/B]
why can't we quit our jobs and just imagine

D#m7 [Am7] C# [G]
we won't have to pay the rent?

C# [G] F# [C] G# [D] C# [G]
In sti tutional ized

C# [G] C#/C [G/F#] A#m [Em] G# [D]
mis o gy ny

C# [G] F7 [B7] F# [C] C#dim [Gdim]
that's why they're charging rent

C# [G] G# [D] F# [C] C# [G]
to my baby and me

G# [D]
Michelle, ma belle:

F# [C] C# [G]
ton beau, Michel Foucault

G# [D] F# [C] C# [G]
a Foucault dependent is always ready to go

A#m [Em] F# [C]
I think we're alone

G# [D] G#7 flat 9 [D7 flat 9]
I might have known

A#m [Em] G#9 [D9] F# [C]
she's got Chomsky on the phone

C# [G] F# [C] G# [D] C# [G]
In sti tutional ized

C# [G] C#/C bass [G/F# bass] Bbm [Em] G# [D]
mis o gy ny

C# [G] F7 [B7] F# [C] C#dim [Gdim]
that's all that stands between

C# [G] G# [D] F# [C] C# [G]
my baby and me

G# [D] F# [C] C# [G] G# [D] F# [C] C# [G]
my baby and me my baby and me

C# [G] F# [C] G# [D] C#6 [G6]
