The Milk Carton Kids

Girls Gather Round

by The Milk Carton Kids
The Milk Carton Kids

Biography:

The Milk Carton Kids is an American indie folk duo from Eagle Rock, California, United States, consisting of singers and guitarists Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan, who formed the group in early 2011.

A performance by The Milk Carton Kids is a quiet and intricate affair. The duo have enjoyed intently listening audiences across the country and abroad in their respective solo careers, but an even greater sense of urgency and demand of attention is palpable now that they've come together as The Milk Carton Kids.

"Don't you let the lessons stop, time ain't just hands on a clock"
C G
That's what I'm gonna tell Pop when I leave
C F
A vision on the lonely road, it's something that i gotta know:
C G C
If i can drive this car all on my own

C F
I guess i'll leave my girl behind, I should have done that long ago
C G
Sometime I'm sure the pain will go away
C F
It wasn't working anyhow, the burners on the stove burnt out
C G C
A shame I didn't figure it out before

Am C F C
Girls, gather round and let that long hair down
Am F G
Sing along with me before I go
Am C F C
Let us have a drink and by god, don't let us think about the
F G C
Things that we ain't never gonna know

C F
I met a man in San Francisco, he told me he did the same thing
C G
Fifty years ago, he left his girl behind
C F
He sits there in the park one hand is strumming his guitar
C G C
Songs he found inside a bottle of wine
C F
I saw the same things on his face, the ones that made me race away from
C G
everything i'd ever really known
C F
the scare to take responsibility from here -and put her there-
C G C
Where everyone can see the seeds you've sown

Am C F C
Girls, gather round and let that long hair down
Am F G
Sing along with me before I go
Am C F C
Let us have a drink and by god, don't let us think about the

You know my line Joe?

C F
If you think about the Creature that you might have thought would teach you
C G
That our hearts are just the thing right from the start
C F
It would keep us from the worries, safe from sound and safe from fury,
C G C
Safe at home besides the ones we know we loved
C F
If you told me from the start that I could never be apart from her,
C G
I'd tell you, "go to hell, get out of my way"
C F
But i've come back with my tail between my legs I didn't know the way
C G C
A man can't be a man all on his own

Am C F C
Girls, gather round and let that long hair down
Am F G
Sing along with me before I go

The sun is going down on this lonesome town
Am F G
But I got you here to keep my company
Am C F C
You ever had the feeling that we're living for a reason?
F G C
For that reason I won't ever let you go
Am C F C
You ever had the feeling that we're living for a reason?
F G C
For that reason I won't ever let you go
F G C
For that reason I won't ever let you go
F G Am
For that reason I won't ever let you go
C F G C
For that reason I won't ever let you go
