The Lawrence Arms

Demons

by The Lawrence Arms
The Lawrence Arms

Biography:

The Lawrence Arms are a punk rock trio from Chicago, formed in 1999. The lineup consists of Brendan Kelly (vocals & bass), Chris McCaughan (vocals & guitar), and Neil Hennessy (drums). They have released seven full-length albums and are currently signed to Epitaph. Their music and lyrics exhibit their propensity for juxtaposing references from history and literature with American pop culture. The band takes its name from a building the members resided in (and were later evicted from) called the Lawrence Arms

Great song from the new EP, Buttsweat and Tears. Simple like most of their songs.

Verse 1:
C G Am F
I got too drunk at your wedding and my voice got loud
C G Am F
And I said some creepy things and I staggered around
C G Am F
And even though your best man had to kick me out
C G C
It was a pretty good time either way

Verse 2: (Use same chord progression as above)

It seems a fight broke out and an old man was yelling
Because no one was buying all the bullshit he was selling
He threw all his keepsakes on the ground and walked away
Cursing hard to bring back yesterday

Chorus: (Hard strum and stop on each chord)
C C G G F F F F
And the ti - i - ime it ain't gonna stop
C C G G Am Am Am
Just because you walk away
C C G G F F F F
And you can cry - y - y for those things that you lost
C C G G C
But you ain't never gonna bring back those days

Verse 3: (Use same chord progression as other verses)

I hate the Mondays and the Fridays 'cause they always define
The endless march of pushing ruthlessly to the light
Well, if I'm gonna be damned then I'm gonna get high
And scream until I'm not feeling the pain

Verse 4: (Guitar hits C and holds out for the first two lines, and comes back in
the same pattern as above for the last two)

Let's burn a bridge for the fuck of it and kill this night
With some beers down at the pits, with whiskey lips, and we'll try
To love for the moment and forget for the night
That life doesn't usually feel great

Bridge:

Am G

F G Am
Where we gonna go now that everything is shut down?
F G C
I can't go home, so where do you wanna go now?
F G (tempo slows)
Let's bring it back around to where everybody's singing about the

Chorus:
C G F
Ti - i - ime it ain't gonna stop
C G Am
Just because you walk away
C G F
And you can cry-y-y for those things that you lost
C G C
But you ain't never gonna bring back these days
