The Guess Who

by The Guess Who
The Guess Who

Biography:

The Guess Who is a rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba that was one of the first Canadian groups to establish a major successful following both in their own country as well as abroad. In their late 60s and early 70s heyday, the guys took influence from late period British invasion bands as well as stuck alongside them on the charts. They were notably the first Canadian rock n roll group to have a #1 hit in the United States thanks to the success of 1970's "American Woman".

[Verse 1]
Asus2 A7 D
I was lost and tossed on a misty morning by a drunken sailor
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
and the genie in the bottle let me down
Asus2 A7 D
I was raised on Cain in the name of the Father and the Mother
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
and the brother and the other who was never even round
Asus2 A7
On a windswept coast with the Black Knight falling
D Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
I was heard to be calling that my ship and all its crew were going down
Asus2 A7 D
As the sun ran slowly by a childhood rivulet a jeweled King summoned me
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
commanding that I run and tell the town

[Bridge]
A D G C F D
Saw you, saw me, run quickly now
F G Asus2
Run and hide away
F G A
Run and hide today

[Verse 2]
Asus2 A7 D
In a room in a castle full of faceless lovers I was cut and bleeding
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
and the image in the mirror struck me down
Asus2 A7 D
I was chased and beaten by a well-drilled team of little men breathing colors
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
and abandoned in a coffin in the ground
Asus2 A7 D
As a pale young virgin made a meal of a martyr she was hailed as holy
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
by the only ones who stood and held their ground
Asus2 A7 D
When a bright Mona Lisa with the eyes of a tiger read a new proclamation
Dm7 E7sus4 E E7sus4 E7
I was stricken from her list and never found

[Bridge]
A D G C F D
Saw you, saw me, run quickly now
F G Asus2
Run and hide away
F G A
Run and hide today

[Outro]
Dmaj7 D6
Seems they come and go so quickly
C#m F#m
Disappear like sunlight in the evening
Bm E7 A A7
And they may not ever be explained
Dmaj7 D6
Seems like they come and go so quickly
C#m F#m
Disappearin' in the air like a breath of wind
Bm E7 A
And they may not ever be explained
A7
And I woke up thinkin' I was dyin'
Dmaj7 D6 C#m
If you find one hang on with all you got
F#m
Way down deep, deep in your soul
Bm E7 A
For it may not ever come again
A7
And I woke up crying like a baby
Dmaj7 D6 C#m F#m
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Bm E7 A
No, they may not ever be explained
A7
And I woke up thinkin' about ya
Dmaj7 D6 C#m F#m
If you find one, hang on with everything you got deep down there in your soul
Bm E7 A
For they may not ever be explained
A7
And I woke up cryin' like a baby
Dmaj7 D6
Seems they come and go so quickly
C#m F#m
Disappear like sunlight in the evening
Bm E7 A
And they may not ever be explained
A7
And I woke up thinkin' I had the answer
