The Fratellis

Baby Dont You Lie To Me

by The Fratellis
The Fratellis

Biography:

The Fratellis is an alternative rock band from Glasgow, Scotland who took their name from the villains in the film "The Goonies" (although, by coincidence, Barry's mother's maiden name is in fact Fratelli). The band consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Jon Fratelli (real name John Lawler), bass guitarist Barry Fratelli (real name Barry Wallace), and drummer, backing vocalist, occasional guitarist and banjo player Mince Fratelli (real name Gordon McRory).

[Verse 1]
C Am
Well little girl you can roll your eyes at the very sight of me
F
Do everything in spite of me
G D#
But baby don’t you lie to me
C
I’ll take your mood swings
Am
I’ll dig a hole in your dishonesty
F
I will kneel down in your company
G
But baby don’t you lie to me

[Pre-Chorus 1]
D# C
I’ll be your red-cheeked lover
D# C
And your man of regret
D# C Bb G
There’ll be no desert too dry and no ocean too wet
D# C
I’ll be your punchbag substitute
D# C
I’ll sharpen your claws
D# C Bb G
When you come tumbling down you’re still in my thoughts

[Chorus 1]
G# D#
Well there’s just one thing baby I could never abide
Bb D# Bb
No matter how much you beg no matter how hard you try

You can tell me that I’ll never be free
Bb
But baby don’t you lie to me

[Verse 2]
C Am
Well little sister I can handle the thought of you despising me
F
Dancin’ on my grave and baptising me
G D#
As long as baby you don’t lie to me
C
I’ll bend until you have broken my will
Am
I’ll be no enemy
F
You’ll never hear so much as a complaint from me
G
As long as baby you don’t lie to me

[Chorus 2]
D# C
Well you can take my house
D# C
Don’t take my pride

Chase my friends, ruin my name
D# C Bb G
I won’t ever fight back I’ll be easy to blame
G# D#

I got only one reasonable plea
Bb
Baby don’t you lie to me

Burn my house, throw me out, pull me down, sell my clothes

Every time your lips move baby
B F#
Someone somewhere’s bound to cry
B F# G#
I don’t even think you’re quite aware of how or why
B F#
Life for you could be so easy
B F#
If you’d only shut your mouth
B F#
Every time you feel those words come

[Interlude]
G# F#
Runnin’ out, runnin’ out, runnin’ out
G# F#
Runnin’ out, runnin’ out, runnin’ out
Bb
Runnin’ out, runnin’ out, runnin’ out

Runnin’ out, runnin’ out, runnin’ out
Bb
Ahhhhh

Break my heart up into pieces honey

Shatter my bones
G# D#
You can kill me with your repartee,
Bb
Baby don’t you lie to me

[Chorus 1]
G# D#
Well there’s just one thing baby I will always despise
Bb D# Bb
Not the crack of your whip or the hatred in your eyes
