The Dukes of Stratosphear

Vanishing Girl

by The Dukes of Stratosphear
The Dukes of Stratosphear

Biography:

The Dukes of Stratosphear was a pseudonym used by the English rock band XTC in the mid-1980s. A studio-only project, the band released two vinyl albums: 25 O'Clock (1985) and Psonic Psunspot (1987), which drew upon influences of 1960s psychedelic music such as The Beatles, Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, The Kinks, The Byrds, The Pretty Things, and The Beach Boys (c. 1966). The two albums were released on a single CD under the title Chips from the Chocolate Fireball (An Anthology) in late 1987.

Alright. I absolutely love the Dukes of Stratosphear, so I just decided to try and play this
amazing track for a bit, and I believe this sounds about right. Hope y'all enjoy. (If I'm wrong
at any part, feel free to correct me.)

Verse 1
A D
Someone's knocking in the distance
A E
But I'm deaf and blind
A D
She's not expected home this evening
A E
So I leave the world behind

Chorus
F#m A
For the vanishing girl
F#m E
The vanishing girl
F#m A
Yes she'd give you a twirl
F#m
But she vanishes from my world
G D
So burn my letters and you'd better leave
A
Just one pint a day
G
The whole street's talking about my
D A
White shirts looking so grey

Verse 2
A D
People gossip on the doorstep
A E
Think they know the score
A D
She's giving him the runaround
A E
The man from number four

Chorus
F#m A
Has a vanishing girl
F#m E
A vanishing girl
F#m A
Yes she'd give you a twirl
F#m
But she vanishes from my world
G
Yes the paint is peeling and my
D A
Garden is overgrown

I got no enthusiasm to even answer the phone
