The Dresden Dolls

The Perfect Fit

by The Dresden Dolls
The Dresden Dolls

Biography:

The Dresden Dolls are an American musical duo from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 2001, the group consists of Amanda Palmer (vocals, piano, ukulele, toy piano, harmonica) and Brian Viglione (drums, percussion, guitar, vocals).

They describe their heavily art-damaged and theatrical style as "Brechtian punk cabaret", a phrase invented by Palmer because she was "terrified" that the press would invent a name that "would involve the word 'gothic',"

[Intro]
D/F# Dm/F (x6)

[Verse]
D/F# Dm/F
I could make a dress
D/F# Dm/F
A robe fit for a prince
D/F# Dm/F
I could clothe a continent
D/F# Dm/F
But i can't sew a stitch

D/F# Dm/F
I can paint my face
D/F# Dm/F
And stand very very still
D/F# Dm/F
Its not very practical
C G
But it still pays the bills

D/F# Dm/F
I can't change my name
D/F# Dm/F
But i could be your type
D/F# Dm/F
I can dance and win at games
C G
Like backgammon and life

[Chorus]
D C G
I used to be the smart one, sharp as a tack
D C G
Funny how that skipping years ahead has held me back
D C G
I used to be the bright one, top in my class
D C G
Funny what they give you when you just learn how to ask

[Verse]
D/F# Dm/F
I can write a song
D/F# Dm/F
But i cant sing in key
D/F# Dm/F
I can play piano
D/F# Dm/F
But i never learned to read

D/F# Dm/F
I can't trap a mouse
D/F# Dm/F
But i can pet a cat
D/F# Dm/F
No i'm really serious!
C G
I'm really very good at that

D/F# Dm/F
I can't fix a car
D/F# Dm/F

D/F# Dm/F
I could fix alot of things
C G
But i'd rather not get into that

[Chorus]
D C G
I used to be the bright one, smart as a whip
D C G
Funny how you slip so far when teachers dont keep track of it
D C G
I used to be the tight one, the perfect fit
D C G
Funny how those compliments can make you feel so full of it

D C G7
D C G7

[Verse]
D/F# Dm/F
I can shuffle cut and deal
D/F# Dm/F
But i can't draw a hand
D/F# Dm/F
I can't draw a lot of things
D/F# Dm/F
I hope you understand
D/F# Dm/F
I'm not exceptionally shy
D/F# Dm/F
But i've never had a man
D/F# Dm/F
That i could look straight in the eye
C G
And tell my secret plans

D/F# Dm/F
I can take a vow
D/F# Dm/F
And i can wear a ring
D/F# Dm/F
And i can make you promises but
C G
They won't mean a thing

[Chorus]
D C G
Can't you just do it for me, i'll pay you well
D C G G7
Fuck i'll pay you anything if you could end this
D C G
Can't you just fix it for me, it's gone berserk
D C G G7 D
Fuck i'll give you anything if you can make the damn thing work

D C G G7
Can't you just fix it for me, ill pay you well,
D C G G7
Fuck ill pay you anything, if you can end this
D C G
Hello, i love you will you tell me your name?
D C G G7 D
Hello, i'm good for nothing - will you love me just the same?

C G G7
D C G G7

D C G G7
