[Verse]

D D/C# D/B Dadd4/A
Mr. DJ won't you please play me a song
G A
Play it for an old boy who's a long, long way from home
F#m Em
With a 1000 miles ahead and a thousand miles behind
G A
A dollar in his pocket and a woman on his mind
D D/C# D/B Dadd4/A
You can pick out almost anything you choose.
G A
Play Sweet Home Alabama or let Waylon sing the blues
F#m Em
I don't care what kind of music just as long as it sounds tough
G A
But don't play any hurting songs 'cause I feel bad enough

[Chorus]

G A
Now don't get the wrong impression, I ain't meaning to complain
F#m Bm
But it would be Sunday morning and I guess it had to rain
G G/F# Em A D D7
I was doing pretty good 'til I heard that darn old train going thru, who knows where
G A
And I guess the combination's got me feeling kind a low
F#m Bm
And all I got to cheer me up is this all night radio
G G/F# Em A D
Why don't you play us something hot and let this 18 wheeler roll my blues away

[Verse 2]

D D/C# D/B Dadd4/A
Well I called her from a phone booth in St. Paul
G A
When I asked her if she loves me, I got no reply at all
F#m Em
And if that's the way she wants it, that's the way it's gonna be
G A
It might hurt a little while, but that's alright with me

D D/C# D/B Dadd4/A
I been 10 years wondering what went wrong
G A
And then I turned on my radio and I heard a country song
F#m Em
And it kinda keeps me moving just to roll on down the line
G A
But when you played that hurting song I almost started crying

[Chorus 2]

G A
Willie drowned in Whiskey River with Hank Jr's. rowdy friends
F#m Bm
Those rich boys sang Elvira, Ricky played the mandolin
G G/F# Em A D D7
Them old boys from Alabama put the pedal to the metal and let her roll, roll along
G A
Then I started feeling bad when George stopped loving her today
F#m Bm
Why don't you let old Micky Gilley get down on them 88's
G G/F# Em A D D/C# D/B Dadd4/A
Come on and play us something hot and let this 18 wheeler roll my blues away
D D/C# D/B Dadd4/A
Hey Mr. D.J.
Hey Mr. D.J.
Hey Mr. D.J.
Hey Mr. D.J.
