A D A
Lying still, head awake,
F#m E A
eyes closed tight and thoughts ablaze,
A D A
It’s coursing like a river going through my mind,
F#m E A
taking hits from the hands of time.

A D A F#m E A

A D A
Silence can be so odd,
F#m E A
it’s like looking around for the eyes of God,
A D A
There’s a truth somewhere that I just can’t find,
F#m E A
taking hits from the hands of time.

A D A F#m E A

A D A
And I wonder if you were here right now,
F#m E A
would you sit with me beneath this darkened shroud?
A D A
In this prison built from bricks of shame,
F#m E A
I want to tear it down to the frame.

A D A F#m E A

A D A
If you smash your life up against the wall,
F#m E A
you want to break it like a bottle and just let go,
A D A
But I don’t know if there’s a God at all,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more.

F#m D
And the hours go by endlessly, and the days were spent breathlessly,
F#m A
and the nights begging for some sleep. Oh the endless time alone.
F#m E
And the faces of the boys in line, there was fear in their eyes, and they all,
A D A F#m E A
We just want to find a way home home

A D A F#m E A
home home

A D A
I can hear the birds, see the light outside,
F#m E A
stand up like a man and swallow my pride,
A D A
I can write these words down in a rhyme.
F#m E A
They’ve been beaten from me by the hands of time.

A D A
I don’t know why it’s always this way,
F#m E A
and I hang my head low in the light of day,
A D A
All I know is I’m tired of being afraid,
F#m E A
I got to walk this road on these bricks I’ve laid.

F#m D
All the trumpets and the marching bands, the thunder claps and trembling hands,
F#m A
all the people stood up in the stands, and I just felt so alone,
F#m E
‘Cause the halos looked like rusted chains in the light As we screamed in the dark,
A D A F#m E A
I just wanted to find a way home
A D A F#m E A
home

A D A F#m E A A A

A D A
The truth is I’m not brave or sure,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more,
A D A
I don’t know what I’ve been waiting for,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more.

A D A
The truth is I’m not brave or sure,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more,
A D A
I don’t know what I’ve been waiting for,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more.

A D A
And I don’t know if this road will end at your door,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more,
A D A
I don’t even know what I’m heading for,
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more.
F#m E A
I just know I can’t live like this no more.
