[Intro]

E A B E

[Verse]
E A B
Come listen you fellers, so young and so fine
E A E
And seek not your fortune, in the dark, dreary mines
E A B
It’ll form as a habit, and seep in your soul
E A E
’Till the stream of your blood, is as black as the coal

[Chorus]
B A E
It’s dark as a dungeon, and damp as the dew
B A E
Where the danger is double, and pleasures are few
E A B
Where the rain never falls, and the sun never shines
E A E
It’s dark as a dungeon, way down in the mines

[Post-Chorus]

E A B E

[Verse]
E A B
It’s many a man, I have known in my day
E A E
Who live just to labor, his young life away
E A B
Where the demons of death often come by surprise
E A E
One fall of the slate, and you’re buried alive
E A B
I hope when I’m gone, and the ages shall roll
E A E
My body will blacken, and turn into coal
E A B
Then I look from the door, of my heavenly home
E A E
And pity the miner diggin’ my bone

[Chorus]
B A E
It’s dark as a dungeon, and damp as the dew
B A E
Where the danger is double, and pleasures are few
E A B
Where the rain never falls, and the sun never shines
E A E
It’s dark as a dungeon, way down in the mines
