C G Am
I'd never call this an unpleasant situation
G F C
I'd never teach you how to lie
C G Am
But sometimes I have been walking numb
G F C
And I must catch myself before I cry
G
Before I cry

C G Am
I never call anything ugly
G F C G
I never call anything strange and alone
C G Am
I never want to take things lightly
G F C
Like they have never been my own

F C G
Oh, don't, now I haven't heard it yet
F C
Oh, don't, I haven't heard
F Am G
But I know them and they are inclined to see
F Am G Am
Just who is and isn't a lover in the city

C G Am
I always thought I would be star bright
G F C
I always thought you'd feel it too
C G Am
But sometimes I have been making conversation
G F C
And I must catch myself before I'm down
G
I'm down on you

C G Am
I never think they would be scaring me
G F C
Sacred couples in this cold
C G Am
They look so fine in their eagerness
G F C
I wonder to myself just how they know

F C G
Oh, don't, now I haven't heard it yet
F C
Oh, don't, I haven't heard
F Am G
But I know them and they are inclined to see
F Am G Am
Just who is and isn't a lover in the city

F Am
I swear
G
I'm staking out the whole world
F Am
I swear
G
I'm staking out the whole world
F
I'm staking out the whole world

C G Am
I could never entertain you
G F C
I'd be far too scared to try
C G Am
But sometimes I have been talking dumb
G F C
And I forget myself and don't ask why

F C G
Oh, don't, now I haven't heard it yet
F C
Oh, don't, I haven't heard
F Am G
But I know them and they are inclined to see
F Am G Am
Just who is and isn't a lover in the city
