Taj Mahal

Youre Gonna Need Somebody

by Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal

Biography:

Taj Mahal (born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks in New York City on May 17, 1942) is an American Grammy Award-winning blues musician who incorporates elements of world music into his music. A self-taught singer, songwriter, and film composer who plays the guitar, banjo and harmonica (among many other instruments), Mahal has done much to reshape the definition and scope of blues music over the course of his 50 year career by fusing it with non-traditional forms, including sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and the South Pacific.

Subject: crd:"you're gonna need somebody on your bond" by taj mahal

You're gonna [E] need somebody on your [E] bond child
You're gonna [A] need somebody on your [E] bond
When it's late 'round midnight and [A] old man death comes slippin
into the room
You're gonna [E] need some[B]body on your [E] bond (A,A#,B turn)

You take Mary and Martha standin up in the hillside
Mary explainin' to Martha, "darlin look at the river deep
and the water wide."
Here comes ole Moses, faithful Moses carryin' big ole stones
up the hill
Tellin everybody their gonna need somebody on their bond

leads--play body of song twice using one instrument (keyboard or
mouthharp) first and add another instrument (guitar or horns)
to accompany instrument #1 during second lead

Whoa, you tak Maivus Staples and ole Corn Cheevers(?) they got the
good side on their bond
Oh I been listen to the music people ever since the day I was born
My momma raised me in a room across from the church by the tree and that
sweet gospel music oh how it used to comfort me
Tellin everybody they're gonna need somebody on their bond

Repeat first verse (1st two lines quietly then build to end by
repeating last line of verse (end with B, A, E)

song appears on many of Taj's recordings as it one of his signature
tunes; he plays it at many different tempos so find one that works for
you

I've borrowed a bit from the archives and wanted to give a little
something back.
