Taj Mahal

Cakewalk Into Town

by Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal

Biography:

Taj Mahal (born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks in New York City on May 17, 1942) is an American Grammy Award-winning blues musician who incorporates elements of world music into his music. A self-taught singer, songwriter, and film composer who plays the guitar, banjo and harmonica (among many other instruments), Mahal has done much to reshape the definition and scope of blues music over the course of his 50 year career by fusing it with non-traditional forms, including sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and the South Pacific.

C F
I had the blues, so bad one time it put my face in a permanent frown
C G
Now I'm feeling so much better, I could cakewalk into town

C F
I woke up this mornin' feelin' so good, you know I laid back down again
C G
Throw your big leg over me mama, I might not feel this good again
C F
My baby, oh my baby, I love the way she walks
C G
And when my girl gets sleepy, I love the way she baby-talks
C F
My work done got scarce, honey, my work it done got hard,
C G
I spend my whole day stealin' chickens, mama, from the rich folks yard

Whistling - C, F, C, G

C F
I got the blues, so bad one time it put my face in a permanent frown
C G
You know I'm feeling so much better, I could cakewalk into town

C F
I want to go on a picnic in the country, mama, and stay all day
C G
I don't care if I don't do nothing, just while my time away

C F
I got the blues so bad one time it put my face in a permanent frown
C G
You know I'm feelin' so much better I could cakewalk into town
