Am G Am
It was early one morning, one morning in May
G
I was down by the river, walking my way
C E7
I was lookin' behind me, behind all the flowers
Am G
An old man, he stood laughing and smiling for hours
Dm E7 Am
It was early one morning in May

Am
See how she smiles
G E7 Am
After oh, so many miles a flowerdress

Am G Am
He took my hand softly like I knew only he would
G
And I knew I would love him like I knew only I could
C E7
And the time passed that morning and many days after
Am G
I can still feel him touch me and I can still hear his laughter
Dm E7 Am
It was early one morning in May

Am
I'll have to go
G E7 Am
So goodbye my love and know I'll be missing you

Am G Am
But one night in September he stood there before me
G
And then he went softly and I knew it was forever
C E7
When I walked down to that river, that river where I met him
Am G
I can still see his face now and I know I can't forget him

It was early one morning in May
