Biography:

Styx /st?ks/ is an American rock band from Chicago that formed in 1972 and became famous for its albums released in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They are best known for melding hard rock guitar balanced with acoustic guitar, synthesizers mixed with acoustic piano, upbeat tracks with power ballads, and incorporating elements of international musical theatre.[5] The band established itself with a progressive rock sound in the 1970s, and began to incorporate pop rock and soft rock elements in the 1980s.

[Verse 1]
Am G
This could be the longest night
Am G
In recorded history
Am G
And as for sleep, you might as well just cross it
Am G
Off the list of possibilities

C D
(Now) I'm as brave as the next man
C D
I won't turn and run from a fight
Am G Am
And I could last a million years
C D Am
If I just get through this night

G Am
Ohhh oh ohhh oh oh oh oh oh

[Verse 2]
Am G
I could be a novelist
Am G
Tell secrets never heard
Am G
Pour my soul into each and every sentence
Am G
But I just can't find the words

C D
Still I know that you're out there
C D
And you can relate to it all
Am G Am
And I could bear the cold and stormy winter
C D Am
If I just get through this fall

G Am
Ohhh oh ohhh oh oh oh oh oh

[Chorus]
F E
Don't you know there's no place on this Earth
Am
Where you can run to escape the pain of a broken heart
F E Am
It's useless to spend the time it takes you to try
F
But can't you see that I'm here
E
And I'm looking just the same
F
And I don't know why-y...

[Instrumental]

[Verse 3]
Am G
I could be a movie star
Am G
The king of Hollywood
Am G
Make them cry, dramatically pretending
Am G
To keep romance alive

C D
And I would humbly thank my director
C D
And everyone involved from the start
Am G Am
I could blow them all away
C D Am
If I'd only find the part

[Coda]
G D G Am
Ohhh oh, if I just get through this night
G Dm G Am
Ohhh oh, if I just get through this... night...
