How Good It Feels

by Steve Harley
Steve Harley

Biography:

Steve Harley (born Stephen Malcolm Ronald Nice in south London on 27 February 1951) is an English singer and songwriter, best known as frontman of the rock group Cockney Rebel (subsequently Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel), with whom he still tours.

Growing up in the New Cross area of London and attending Haberdashers' Aske's Hatcham College, his musical career began in the late 1960s when he was busking (with John Crocker) and performing his own songs, some of which were later recorded by him and the band.

[Intro]
C G Em F x2

[Verse 1]
C G
At the end of the day with my senses away
Am G
When I'm managing no sign of life
F C
And I can't even show you how good it feels
G
To be with you tonight
F Em
Well I'm sorry if I stumble
G
I wish I could open my heart

[Chorus]
C G
It's not a heart of stone that I may have shown
C G
But a tragic lack of the lover's tact
F C G
You don't know how good it feels to be with you
C G
You got the lover's dream of positivity
C G
Women's magazine sensitivity
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you, oh

[Break]
C G Em F

[Verse 2]
C G
Give me a chance in this modern romance
Am G
Give me some explanation or clue
F C
To help me to show you how good it feels
G
Being here with you
F Em
But don't expect to be serenaded
G
'Cause you know that that just ain't my style

[Chorus]
C G
It's like a dream machine with a tragic scene
C G
Like a life of fame with anonymity
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you
C G
With your lover's dream of positivity
C G
Women's magazine sensitivity
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you, ooh

[Solo]
C G Am Em F F G

[Verse 3]
C G
Don't ask me now if I'm inside or out
Am G
If I'm over the moon, starry-eyed
F C
You should know by now how good it feels
G
Being here tonight
F Em
I find it so hard to be romantic
G
It's so hard for me to explain

[Chorus]
C G
With your understated simplicity
C G
Your collector's piece of antiquity
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you
C G
With your lover's dream of positivity
C G
Women's magazine sensitivity
F C G
You don't know how good it feels to be with you

[Outro]
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you
F C G
Oh, you don't know how good it feels to be with you
