[Verse 1]
C G7
Nelly Bly ! Nelly Bly! Bring the broom al-ong,
C F G7 C
We'll sweep the kitchen clean, my dear, And have a little song.
C G7
Poke the wood, my lady love, And make the fire burn,
C F G7 C
And while I take the banjo down, Just give the mush a turn.

[Chorus]
C F
Heigh, Nelly! Ho, Nelly!
C G7
Listen, love, to me,
C F
I'll sing for you and play for you
G7 C
A dulcet melo-dy.

[Verse 2]
C G7
Nelly Bly has a voice like a turtle dove,
C F G7 C
I hear it in the meadow and I hear it in the grove.
C G7
Nelly Bly has a heart warm as a cup of tea,
C F G7 C
And bigger than the sweet potatoes down in Tenne-ssee.

[Chorus]
C F
Heigh, Nelly! Ho, Nelly!
C G7
Listen, love, to me,
C F
I'll sing for you and play for you
G7 C
A dulcet melo-dy.

[Verse 3]
C G7
Nelly Bly shuts her eye when she goes to sleep.
C F G7 C
When she wakens up again her eyeballs start to peep.
C G7
The way she walks, she lifts her foot, and then she bumps it down,
C F G7 C
And when it lights, there's music there in that part of the town.

[Chorus]
C F
Heigh, Nelly! Ho, Nelly!
C G7
Listen, love, to me,
C F
I'll sing for you and play for you
G7 C
A dulcet melo-dy.

[Verse 4]
C G7
Nelly Bly! Nelly Bly! Never, never sigh;
C F G7 C
Never bring the tear drop to the corner of your eye.
C G7
For the pie is made of pumpkins and the mush is made of corn,
C F G7 C
And there's corn and pumpkins plenty, love, a-lyin' in the barn.

[Chorus]
C F
Heigh, Nelly! Ho, Nelly!
C G7
Listen, love, to me,
C F
I'll sing for you and play for you
G7 C
A dulcet melo-dy.

[Chorus]
C F
Heigh, Nelly! Ho, Nelly!
C G7
Listen, love, to me,
C F
I'll sing for you and play for you
G7 C
A dulcet melo-dy.
