Soul Asylum

We 3

by Soul Asylum
Soul Asylum

Biography:

Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band formed in the summer of 1981 by Minneapolis high school friends Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller, and Dave Pirner. The band (named Loud Fast Rules up until 1984) quickly became frontrunners of American college rock, following in the tradition of fellow Minnesota bands Hüsker Dü and The Replacements.

Landing their first record deal with Twin/Tone in 1984, Soul Asylum recorded a total of four albums for the local label: Say What You Will.

Intro

Dm C F G x 2

Verse

Dm
I was tapping my foot
C
On a Friday night
Bb
To my favorite band
F
I was pushed aside
Dm
I said "Hey, don't push me
C
No one pushes me"
Bb
When I was face to face
F
With the woman I admired

Bb F
And she gave me this look
C
I could not believe
Bb F
And the cold stare remained
C
I wanted to leave

Verse

See, I do believe anger
Is offset by sorrow
What you destroy today
You might regret tomorrow
When you're young and defensive
It comes off offensive
And its hard to repay
The tolerance that you've borrowed

The lasting relationship
Sinks right off the pier
Who wears the pants
It's faded but clear

Chorus

F
She's your girlfriend
C
Seems she ain't too fond of me
Bb
I guess that that's the way
F
It was meant to be
C
There we were just we 3
Bb F C
You, your girlfriend, and me

Intro

Verse

I've known you forever
You two just met
So easily amused
How fast we forget
And my jealousy
My self-righteous greed
She's a bit like a book
I'm too farsighted to read

And I wish you the best
I sometimes feel the need
To say "Remember me"

Chorus

Yeah, she's your girlfriend
As far as we can see
Does she look at you
The way she looks at me
And here we are, just we 3
You, your girlfriend, and me

She's your girlfriend
It's getting harder to see
Better just take her home
Better just let it be
When she walks out that door
You'll come looking for me

Fadeout

Bb F C
