Hide Your Secrets

by Silverstein
Silverstein

Biography:

Silverstein is a 5-piece post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario, Canada; formed in 2000. The band name was taken from the famous children's author Shel Silverstein.

After several lineup changes, the band acquired Billy Hamilton, a local fan who learned of the band's need for a bassist on the Internet message board "The 905 Board" (an Ontario area outreach board which used to be for local musicians). In Christmas of 2001, he joined the band after Shane Told helped him learn the music for the songs.

"Hide Your Secrets"
This is How the Wind Shifts

Tuning: Half-step down

Intro: F-C-Am-G
F C Am G F
The saddest tone was a voice I heard from a silent film you wrote.
C Am G F
Loud and clear was a muted song only two people could hear.
C Am G F
So I'll go, living through these days acting like I've seen a ghost. A ghost!

Verse 1:
Am-F C G Am-F
This place is mocking my passive demise.
G Am-F
These walls were safely hiding your lies.
C G Am-F
Their secret languages everyone speaks
G
so free, except for me.

Chorus:
F C
Can I save you?
Am G
Will it make me feel like I'm in heaven
F Em G
and stay true to me?
F C Am
Will it make you feel the same way I do
G
and still feel sorrow?
F Em G Am-F [to Verse 2]
But hate you just the same, hate you just the same.

Verse 2:
C G Am-F
Tough ruthless days of just playing along.
G Am-F
I guess you don't feel guilty at all.
C G
You've lost your touch with what's right.
Am-F G
And you're wrong with me but I can't see.

Chorus:
F C
Can I save you?
Am G
Will it make me feel like I'm in heaven
F Em G
and stay true to me?
F C Am
Will it make you feel the same way I do
G
and still feel sorrow?
F Em G C [to Bridge]
But hate you just the same, hate you just the same (way).

Bridge:
Am
(You must hate me)
You must hate me.
Em F G C
Sick insecurities take over hope in the name of deceit.
Am Em
(just put me)
So just put me---- out of my misery
F G [F-C-Am-G 2X]
with those hands that I won't trust again.

Pre-chorus [Intro chords]:
F C Am G F
I will confess that in time I gave up planning my revenge.
C Am G
Fate's worse than death when it makes you forgive and just pretend.

Chorus:
F C
Can I save you?
Am G
Will it make me feel like I'm in heaven
F Em G
and stay true to me?
F C Am
Will it make you feel the same way I do
G
and still feel sorrow?
F Em G F-C
But hate you just the same, hate you just the same.
Am G F-C Am--G--F [let ring]
Hate you just the same.
