Shamir

Biography:

Shamir Bailey (born c. 1994), better known by his stage name Shamir, is an American singer and songwriter from Las Vegas, Nevada. His début EP, Northtown (June 2014) was followed in 2015 by a full-length album, Ratchet.

Shamir is known for his androgynous countertenor voice. Radio.com wrote that his singing voice, "like Joplin's, stops you in your tracks." [Intro]
G

[Verse 1]
G D
Can someone tell me why
Em D
I always seem to let these
G D
Straight boys run my life?
Em D
I guess I'm just too nice to–

[Refrain 1]
Em
Run away or stay where we have
C Em
Who I trust and who's surrounding me and
G
Hope that there's any good left in this life
Em
And trust I give isn't given to me
C
And the hate inside is all I see
Em G D G
And you're clinging to a false sense of pride

[Verse 2]
G D
Can someone tell me why
Em D
It always seems to seem like
G D
All straight boys care about
Em D
Is how they're viewed from the outside?

[Refrain 2]
Em
'Cause being true is not their thing
C
Oh, it eats them up internally
Em G D G
Then they take it out on people like me all the time
Em
They say I'm brave for being true
C
But act like it's not something they can do
G D
But they're clinging to a false sense of pride

[Verse 3]
Am C
Don't tell me you don't see
G D
The pool of contradiction
Am C
Don't tell me you don't see
G D
The flood in your convictions

[Refrain 1]
Em
Oh, run away or stay where we have
C
Who I trust and who's surrounding me and
G D
Hope that there's any good left in this life
Em
And trust I give isn't given to me
C
And the hate inside is all I see
Em G D G
And you're clinging to a false sense of pride

[Verse 4]
G
Can someone tell me why
Em G D
It always seems to seem like

All straight boys care about
