Shakey Graves

To Cure What Ails

by Shakey Graves
Shakey Graves

Biography:

Shakey Graves, aka Alejandro Rose-Garcia from Austin, Texas, plays a gnarly composite of blues and folk as a one-man-band of epic sonic proportions. The sound emitted from his hollow body guitar, mildly distorted amp and suitcase drum belie the young singer’s lean frame. He fingerpicks while keeping time with a double-pedal kick drum, hitting a snare fitted into his suitcase drum and a tambourine fashioned to its side. And when he sings, Rose-Garcia unleashes an unearthly howl.

CAPO 1

F Gm
So I tried a new direction,
C G C
Ooh, a new mindset, a new state
Bb
but running's what it is
C
it's hard when you're a kid
F
to find your place

Gm
I know a gang of clever fellows
C G
we built a fort out in the woods
C Bb
we cuss and spit at all the girls
C
without a care in all the world
F
yeah, the living is good

Gm
but now im supposed to grow
F
big and tall
Gm F
seems like i dont get to wear my bare feet at all
C
but when the storm is through
Bb
my feet know what to do
F
all roads lead to you

Gm
I think i've grown a little thinner
C G C
without you riding my coattails
Bb
I will trade it in all again
C
for a nice stroll in your skin
F
just to cure what ails

Gm
and I can see a palm tree
F
from my chair
Gm F
so I don't really feel like going anywhere
C
and even if I do
Bb
It really is of no use
F
cause all roads lead to you

Gm
I can see a palm tree
F
from my chair
Gm
so I dont really feel like
F
going anywhere
C
but even if i do
Bb
its really of no use
F
cause all roads lead to you

Gm C
I always try to please you
G C
i'm never getting any sleep (??)
Bb
love seems easier when it comes
C
but the coming's just the first part
F
of having to leave

Gm C
so maybe ill die a happy minstrel
G C
or just a shadow of my former self
Bb
I'd undo what I have done
C
but lamenting's much more fun
F
guilt is bad for your health

Gm
oh, but now I'm supposed to grow
F
big and tall
Gm F
seems like I dont get to wear my bare feet at all
C
but when the day is through
Bb
theres nothing left to do
F
baby, all roads lead to you

Bb
yeah baby when my life is through
C
i know just what to do
F
cause all roads lead to you
oh
