Shakey Graves

Pansy Waltz

by Shakey Graves
Shakey Graves

Biography:

Shakey Graves, aka Alejandro Rose-Garcia from Austin, Texas, plays a gnarly composite of blues and folk as a one-man-band of epic sonic proportions. The sound emitted from his hollow body guitar, mildly distorted amp and suitcase drum belie the young singer’s lean frame. He fingerpicks while keeping time with a double-pedal kick drum, hitting a snare fitted into his suitcase drum and a tambourine fashioned to its side. And when he sings, Rose-Garcia unleashes an unearthly howl.

Pansy Waltz - Shakey Graves

Tabbed by: Ernie

First time posting a song so go really hard on me.

I watched the Pickathon 2014 video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lerW7bCbeg) to get these chords and
lyrics. The lyrics I did by ear so let me know if I messed them up. Also this is a really hard song to
play so if you can even get close you must be an awesome guitar player! Good work!

Corrected lyrics thanks to BorisBarratt.

As HolyRoller12 points out, sounds like Shakey alternates b/w bass notes on the Bm and Cm.

Tuning:Standard (eBGDAE)

G or G Bm Cm D C B5 Em D7#9
e|----3----3-----2-2---3-3--2--------x-------------------------------------------|
B|---------3-----3-3---4-4--3---1----x-------------------------------------------|
G|---------4-----4-4---5-5--2--------x----------5--------------------------------|
D|---------5-----4-4---5-5--x---2----x----2-----4--------------------------------|
A|---(2)---5-----2-x---3-x--x---3----2----2-----5--------------------------------|
E|----3----3-----x-2---x-3--x---x----2-------------------------------------------|

He plugs in his acoustic to give it some grit. If I figure out the levels,
I'll post them, if I remember.

The first stanza is muted.

[Verse]

G
Well he's out of season out of sync
but lord what must his family think
Bm
and you must be getting his feathers wet.
Cm
But she always seems to be the talk
Until she drops you like a rock
G D C
You should’ve been a better friend to him.

G
Well I dusted all the bones were in my yard
I fixed the screen door, raised the barn
Bm
But still you call me from the moon
Every single afternoon
Cm
Tell me all about the astronauts you come to love
And how the earth looks from above
G D C
And how I should’ve been a better friend to you.

G C G B5
But I never seen life as a chore, a treasure for to find
Em C D7#9 x 3
I’ve read the news, abused the booze, and often wondered why
G C G B5
My smile remains though I'm thinking pains the average passerby
Em
Well they’ll sink like stones into their homes away from teeth like mine.

Whoo!! (Like Shakey Does) Follows the same progression as the verse: G - Bm - Cm - G - D - C

G
Well I’m sure I came to hate my skin and all the holes you’re digging in
Bm
The way you let my legs waltz those weeks away
Cm
by your side
G D G
well you should’ve been a better friend of mine

G
Well I saw in you a brand new bird the song of which I never heard
Bm
You know it was a melody so fine that whole world would pine
Cm
And it’s a tune to give the boys the blues and turn the horses into glue
G D C
You know I should’ve been a better friend to you
G D C
Yeah I should have been a better friend to you

G C G B5
But I never seen life as a chore, a treasure for to find
Em C D7#9 x 3
I’ve read the news, abused the booze, and often wondered why…
G C G B5
My smile remains though I'm thinking pains the average passerby
Em
Well they’ll sink like stones into their homes away from teeth like mine.
