Shakey Graves

Kiss The Girl

by Shakey Graves
Shakey Graves

Biography:

Shakey Graves, aka Alejandro Rose-Garcia from Austin, Texas, plays a gnarly composite of blues and folk as a one-man-band of epic sonic proportions. The sound emitted from his hollow body guitar, mildly distorted amp and suitcase drum belie the young singer’s lean frame. He fingerpicks while keeping time with a double-pedal kick drum, hitting a snare fitted into his suitcase drum and a tambourine fashioned to its side. And when he sings, Rose-Garcia unleashes an unearthly howl.

These are not the exact way that Shakey plays it since he uses a unique tuning and such, however this is
accurate using a closer to standard tuning.

[Chords]
Em D G A (G and A should be played as 5-5-5-x-x-x and 7-7-7-x-x-x on the D-A-D-G-B-E strings respectively)

Transition: D->Em when transitioning from D to Em during interludes play the following on the low D string:
---5-3-2---
Shakey doesn't play this transition all the time, and also plays this rif intermittently during D chords in
certain parts. I suggest watching the video to really figure this out!

[Intro]
D(with riff sometimes) Em D

[Verse]
D
well there you see her

oh sittin there across the way
Em
well she don't got a lot to say
D
but there's something about her

[Chorus]
G
and you don't know why
A
oh you're dying to try
D
mhmm you just gotta kiss the girl
Em D
oohooh ooh
D
oh yes, you want her

well look at her, you know you do
Em
well its possible she wants you too

there is one way to ask her
G
oh an it don't take a word
A
no not a single word
D
yeah you just gotta kiss the girl
G
oh me oh my
A
look like the boy too shy
D
oh he's gonna miss the girl
G
yeah well ain't that sad?
A
Ain't it a shame? too bad
D
he's gonna miss that girl
D
yeah so now's your moment

oh floating in a blue lagoon
Em
well cause boy, you better do it soon
D
yeah no time will be better
G
I'm tellin you it dont take a word
A
no not a single word
D
you just gotta kiss that girl
D
yeah you just gotta kiss that girl

[kissing noises if you choose, followed by explosions and one strummed D!]
