The falling baselines in the verse are crucial to the song, so the bass notes must be played:
First from F sharp down to G and in the second half from G to A.
One way is to start the progression with a barre on 7th freth
e: x x x x x x 3 and then x x x x x x 5
b: 10 8 7 2 3 2 3 12 10 8 7 2 3 2
G: 7 9 7 2 5 2 0 12 7 9 7 2 5 2
D: 7 9 7 2 5 2 0 12 7 9 7 2 5 2
A: 9 7 5 4 2 0 2 10 9 7 5 4 2 0
E: x x x x x x 3 x x x x x x x

Sandy's singing in the chorus is very rubato; take the chord placements as an approximation.

[Verse 1]
D/F# Em D A/C#
Good morning, good afternoon,
Bm A G
and what have you got to say?
G D/F# Em D
Well I'm waiting, but I can't stay long,
A/C# Bm A
it's such a lovely day.
D/F# Em D A/C#
There's a time to be talking
Bm A G
and a time when it's no use.
G D/F# Em D
Right now I think the things you say
A/C# Bm A
are liable to confuse.

[Chorus]
D G
I've just gone solo.
D G
Do you play solo?
D A G D
Ain't life a solo?

[Verse 2]
D/F# Em D A/C#
What a wonderful way to live,
Bm A G
She's travelling all over the world.
G D/F# Em
Why, the fame and all the golden
D A/C# Bm A
Opportunities unfurled.
D/F# Em D A/C#
No time for the gent with the Mulliner Bentley
Bm A G
And heaven knows what else.
G D/F# Em D
Why, he wouldn't even stand a chance
A/C# Bm A
With all his oilwells.

[Chorus]
D G
She just went solo.
D G
Do you play solo?
D A G D
Ain't life a solo?

[Verse 3]
D/F# Em D A/C#
I've always lived in a mansion
Bm A G
On the other side of the moon.
G D/F# Em D
I've always kept a unicorn
A/C# Bm A
And I never sing out of tune.
D/F# Em D A/C#
I could tell you that the grass is really greener
Bm A G
On the other side of the hill,
G D/F# Em D
But I can't communicate with you
A/C# Bm A
And I guess I never will.

[Chorus]
D G
We've all gone solo.
D G
We all play solo?
D A G D
Ain't life a solo?
