Roscoe James Irwin

Arrows

by Roscoe James Irwin
Roscoe James Irwin

Biography:

"From his involvement with seminal Australian bands The Cat Empire and The Bamboos, to his highly ambitious compositions and arrangements that have been performed by countless big bands and orchestras, and considering his iconic status as a bandleader and large-scale composer, Irwin’s debut solo record, The Hunting Road, might then come as something of a shock. There is no stabbing brass, there are no sweeping strings, no jungle percussion breaks.

Make sure you listen to the song for the strumming
pattern. Verse 2 speeds up the pattern a bit. I could
also be wrong about the song structure.

[Intro]

Bm (x4) bars

[Verse 1]

Bm G D
Running to the church through the pouring rain
A G Bm
Skinny white boy and a foreign girl
Bm G D
She said "You looks so funny with your hands on fire"
A G Bm
I said "You look so pretty with your hair untied"

[Verse 2]

Bm G D
I dressed like a cowboy and got you in my sight
A G Bm
You were dressed like an Indian and shot me in the eye
Bm G D
With the Bayou Bottle from the burning store
A G Bm
And the boots of your father that he wore in the war

[Verse 3]

Bm G D
We ran through the valley from the mountain tall
A G Bm
And we swam in the river with our clothes torn off
Bm G D
You look so pretty naked shaking like a stone
A G Bm
And later that night you were shaking my bones

[Verse 4]

Bm G D
I smelled like whisky and you like wine
A G Bm
Like the scent of the gods bleeding out from the pines
Bm G D
You look so pretty when you come on top
A G Bm
And you talk so sweetly as you're drifting off

[Verse 5]

Bm G D
Wake up in the morning with a dying fire
A G Bm
And we run through the snow and we howl at the sky
Bm G D
When we get older we can settle down
A G Bm
In a little wood cabin in this redwood town

[Chorus]

Bm G D
Because you look so pretty, yeah you look so pretty
A G Bm
Yeah you look so pretty with your hair untied
Bm G D
You look so pretty, yeah you look so pretty
A G Bm
Yeah you look so pretty with your hair untied

[Bridge]

A Bm G
You have found me one night
A N.C. Bm G
With my hands bleeding fire
Bm A
Wide open and wide eyed

[Chorus]

N.C.
Because you look so pretty, yeah you look so pretty
N.C.
Yeah you look so pretty with your hair untied
N.C.
You look so pretty, yeah you look so pretty
N.C.
Yeah you look so pretty with your hair untied

[Outro]

Bm G D
You look so pretty, yeah you look so pretty
A G Bm
Yeah you look so pretty with your hair untied
Bm G D
You look so pretty, yeah you look so pretty
A G D
Yeah you look so pretty with your hair untied
