A beautiful song about a beautiful city.
In 3/4 time, naturally.

[Verses]
G D G
Oh, the harbour lights are gleamin',
C G
And the evening's still and dark;
G D Em
And the seagulls are all dreaming,
A7 D
Seagull dreams on Amherst Rock.
G D G
And the mist is slowly drifting,
C Em
As the shorefront lights go dim;
G D Em
And the moon is gently liftin',
A7 D
As the last ship's - the last ship's - comin' in.
C D
All the sailors got a story,
Em D C G
Some are true, some are false;
Am D B7 E
But they're always wrecked and they're up on the deck,
A7 D G
And dancin' the St. John's Waltz.

G D G
And we've had our share of history,
C G
We've seen nations come and go;
G D Em
We've seen battles rage over land and stage,
A7 D
Two hundred years and more.
G D G
For glory or for freedom,
C Em
Or for country or for King;
G D Em
Or for money or fame, but there are no names,
A7 D
On the graves where men lie sleeping.
C D
All the nine-to-fives survive the day,
Em D C G
With a sigh and a dose of salts;
Am D B7 E
They're parkin' their cars and packin' the bars,
A7 D G
Dancin' the St. John's Waltz.

G D G
Oh, my heart is on the highway,
C G
And I'm sold on goin' to sea;
G D Em
All the planes fill the skyway,
A7 D
All the trains run swift and free.
G D G
So leave the wayward free to wander,
C Em
Leave the restless free to roam;
G D Em
If there's rocks in the bay, if it's old cliché,
A7 D
You'll find your way back home.
C D
But don't question or inquire,
Em D C G
What's been gained, what's been lost;
Am D B7 E
In a world of romance don't miss out on the chance,
A7 D G
To be dancin' the St. John's Waltz.
