D Am/C D Am/C
Ye banks and braes o' bonnie Doon,
D G D A
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
D Am/C D Am/C
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
D G G D
And I'm sae weary, fu' o' care!

D G D D G D
Ye'll break my heart, ye warbling bird,
D G A
That wantons through the flow'ring thorn,
D Am/C D Am/C
Ye mind me o' departed joys,
D G G D
Departed never to return.

D Am/C D Am/C
Oft ha'e I roved by bonnie Doon,
D G D A
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
D Am/C D Am/C
And ilka bird sang o' its love,
D G G D
And fondly sae did I o' mine.

D G D D G D
Wi' lightsome heart I stretch'd my hand,
D G A
And pu'd a rosebud from the tree;
D Am/C D Am/C
But my fause lover stole the rose,
D G G D
And left, and left the thorn wi’ me.

D Am/C D Am/C
Ye banks and braes o' bonnie Doon,
D G D A
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
D Am/C D Am/C
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
D G G D
And I'm sae weary, fu' o' care!

D G D D G D
Ye'll break my heart, ye warbling bird,
D G A
That wantons through the flow'ring thorn,
D Am/C D Am/C
Ye mind me o' departed joys,
D G G D
Departed never to return.
