Richard Marx

Endless Summer Nights

by Richard Marx
Richard Marx

Biography:

Richard Noel Marx (born September 16, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois) is a singer-songwriter best known for his adult contemporary music. He had a string of successful hit singles in the late 80s and early 90s such as "Right Here Waiting," "Hazard," and "Hold on to the Nights." Although most of his successful songs are slow ballads like these, many of his songs have an upbeat, classic rock style, examples being "Don't Mean Nothing," "Should've Known Better," "Satisfied," and "Wait for the Sunrise".

Endless Summer Nights
1987
By Richard Marx
Capo 3rd

[Intro]
G C D C D
G C D C D

[Verse 1]
Em D
Summer came and went without a warning,
Em D
All at once I looked and you were gone,
C
Now you’re looking back at me,
Am7 G F
Searching for a way that we can be, like we were before.

[Verse 2]
Em D
Now I’m back to what I knew before you,
Em D
Somehow the city doesn’t look the same,
C
I’d give my life for one more night,
Am7
Of having you here to hold me tight,
G F D
Oh please, take me there again, Oh, Oh, Oh

[Chorus]
C D/G C D C D
And I remember how you loved me,
G C Em D Dsus4 D
Time was all we had until the day we said goodbye,
G C D C D G C/D C/D
I remember every moment of those endless summer nights.

[Verse 3]
Em D Dsus/Dsus4
I still recall the walks along the beaches,
Em D Dsus/Dsus4
And the way your hair would glisten in the sun,
C Am7 G F
Rising in the afternoon, making love with you under the moon, Oh
Em D Dsus/Dsus4
Do you remember all the nights we spent in silence,
Em D Dsus/Dsus4
Every single breath you took was mine,
C Am7 G
We can have it all again, say that you’ll be with me when the sun,
F D
Brings your heart to mine, Oh, Oh

[Chorus]
C D/G C D C D
And I remember how you loved me,
G C Em D Dsus4 D
Time was all we had until the day we said goodbye,
G C D C D G C/D C/D
I remember every moment of those endless summer nights.

[Bridge]
Em Am7 D G C
There’s only so much I can say, So please don’t run away,
Am7 D Dsus4 D
From what we had together,
Em Am7 D G C
It’s only you and me tonight, So let’s get lost in flight,
Am7 Dsus4 D
Oh won’t you please surrender,

[Instrumental]
G C D C D
G C D C D

[Chorus]
C D/G C D C D
And I remember how you loved me,
G C Em D Dsus4 D
Time was all we had until the day we said goodbye,
G C D C D G C/D C/D
I remember every moment of those endless summer nights.
