Rheostatics

Self Serve Gas Station

by Rheostatics
Rheostatics

Biography:

Rheostatics are a Canadian indie rock band. Although they had only one Top 40 hit (Claire in 1995), they were simultaneously one of Canada's most influential and most unconventional rock bands in the 1990s, a band whose defiantly quirky, yet compelling, take on pop and rock music has been described both as iconic and iconoclastic.

They played their farewell concert to a sold-out house at Toronto's Massey Hall on March 30, 2007. Sound board recordings of that and many other shows are available (with permission) at http://rheostaticslive.

SELF SERVE GAS STATION
Written By: Martin Tielli
On the Album "Whale Music"
Transcribed By: Mike Kaplan

D G
Another trucker stumbles up the steps into my kiosk for directions,
A D
Too wasted to see the map I'm showing him.
D
He wanted to bust the glass... 'cause I wouldn't give him gas--
G
I said, "You shouldn't even be driving.
A
Just take a nap until the morning time and hit the road."

D D/C# root D/C root
I wish I had a pistol just to take him down with myself.
G
Who's to tell?
Em A/Em
No one said this would be easy...
D
But no one said this would be hell.

D
Mom and Dad are selfless... and they don't do nothing worthless.
G
They just work all day and worry about their son:
A D
"What went wrong with Martin? Is he dumb?"

D/C# D/C
I just pump gas every weekday night
G Em
Until the sun comes up like missiles... to my brain.
D
You never said this would be hell.

D A
Oh... with all the colours in closed eyes:
F C
Blue and black of veins all bleed to one.
D A Bm
Come with me tonight... To say that this is anything
G
Is saying much too much.

Let's go.

D////D-A-D

D D/C# bass
I see the sun is bleeding.
D/C G
The morning time has come... It's not that bad.

Oh, no.
Em A/Em
No one said I would be king-like,
Em D
But no one said I could be had!
