Rev Hammer

Ole Welsh Soul

by Rev Hammer
Rev Hammer

Biography:

Rev Hammer regards his music not so much as a passport to fame and fortune but as a ticket to ride. He learned to play guitar and sing at the same time and wisely thought busking was the best way to get to a standard where he could play publicly. Rev spent 18 months busking in the streets before he dared stand on a stage.

Rev's debut album "Industrial Sound and Magic" was recorded in a cow shed in Essex on a budget of nothing but, given that that the backing band (which gave its services for free) was The Levellers

Ole Welsh Soul by Rev Hammer

B5 B5 B5 B5
D
We crossed the border ‘tween England and Wales,

With a modern load on ancient trails,
Bm
Stopping where the circus used to go,
D
Well we followed a map past Owen’s place,

And feasted on Vyrnwy’s misty grace,
Bm
Saying ‘oh god, bless the valley below’,
D A
We were shattered by the rivers edge,
Bm A G
In the cleavage of the dirt,
A
Counting piles of golden leaves
Bm A G
For whatever it was,
Bm A G
Whatever it was worth,
Bm A G
Ah that’ a place to go,
G Bm A G
Down on the old Dolgellau Road,
G Bm A G
Let it roll and a let it roll,
G Bm
Well I wanna feel, feel some o’ that ole,
A G
Some o’ that ole Welsh soul,
G Bm
Let it roll an’ a-let it roll.
D
Where water paints the mountain sides,

Gliding down in silver tides,
Bm
And reflecting many things we need to know,
D
We drank our drinks when Harlech drank,

We sang it’s song and left our thanks,
Bm
Saying ‘Oh god, bless the valley below’,
D A
Well I remember you as we drove into,
Bm A G
A town you knew as home,
G A
Where the land ate the machinery,
Bm A G
You could hear the engine,
Bm A G
You could hear the engine groan,
Bm A G
Ah that’ a place to go,
G Bm A G
Down on the old Dolgellau Road,
G Bm A G
Let it roll and a let it roll,
G Bm
Well I wanna feel, feel some o’ that ole,
A G
Some o’ that ole Welsh soul,
G Bm
Let it roll an’ a-let it roll.
Bm
A breakfast at Dill’s Diner,
Bm
An a camera at Swallow Falls,
Bm
In the slate caverns of Blaenau Ffestiniog,
Bm
Climbing up Garth Bach,
D
And looking back, looking back to Y Bryn,
D
The old farmhouse,
Bm
Well I’m a-looking back,
A G
Toward the future, don’t you know?
G Bm
Let it roll and a let it roll.
D
Well out there in that mornin’ chill,
D
We flew our flag upon that hill,
Bm
Oh an’ somethin’ in the distance started to glow,
D
Above our heads three fighters flew,
D
And you looked at me and I looked at you,
Bm
Saying “Oh god, bless the valley below”,
D A Bm A G
Now if I may take you back upon the music of the road,
G A
You must close your eyes and ears my dear,
Bm A G
And move it in your,
Bm A G
Ah move it in your soul,
Bm A G
Ah that’ a place to go,
G Bm A G
Down on the old Dolgellau Road,
G Bm A G
Let it roll and a let it roll,
G Bm
Well I wanna feel, feel some o’ that ole,
A G
Some o’ that ole Welsh soul,
Bm A G (repeat until fade!)
