[Verse 1]
A D
Takin' a trip in my old Chevy, ridin' through the south
A E
I looked up on a hill and I saw a big white house
A D
I caught a glimpse of a bearded man polishing his sword
A E A
Well, I saw Robert E. Lee outside sittin' on the porch

A D
I pulled up in the yard and saw a cotton field out back
A E
He invited me to sit with him and share a fifth of Jack
A D
He had criss-cross bars and thirteen stars blowing in the wind
A E A
He said, "Save your Confederate money, boy 'cause the south will rise again."

[Chorus]
D A
And Robert E. Lee did not like them northerners one bit
D A E
He was a rebel and he knew it and he didn't give a shit
D A F#m
We've been talkin' about Dixie and how old times used to be
D A E A
And I've been sittin' up drinkin' with Robert E. Lee

[Verse 2]
A D
We talked about his troops in the rebel infantry
A E
And those thirteen southern states that live in infamy
A D
As he took another swig of his black label whiskey
A E A
He said, "That yankee pride don't mean a damn thing to me."

A D
He spoke about his men and how they always fought so brave
A E
And how they wove their sacred flag though many lives they gave
A D
He struggled to gain independence for his southern ground
A E A
He stood up for his cause and never once did he back down

[Chorus]
D A
And Robert E. Lee did not like them northerners one bit
D A E
He was a rebel and he knew it and he didn't give a shit
D A F#m
We've been talkin' about Dixie and how old times used to be
D A E A
And I've been sittin' up drinkin' with Robert E. Lee

[Verse 3]
A D
It was two o'clock A.M. and the fire was gettin' low
A E
So I thanked him for our talk 'cause it was time for me to go
A D
While walkin' to my car, I turned to thank him once again
A E A
But the light was bare, there was nothing there but rock and dirt and sand

[Bridge]
F#m E A
Was it my imagination playing with my head?
F#m A E A
I remember hearing clearly every single word he said
F#m E A
Every movement, every gesture, every tear that his heart shed
D A E A
His dream is still alive even though his body's dead

[Verse 4]
A D
Robert E. Lee's memory lives on in the southern soul
A E
Along with his boys who fought and died out in the cold
A D
Lee was a man with tons of courage and a hero without a doubt
A E A
He was a man with determination, he was a man from the south

[Chorus]
D A
And Robert E. Lee did not like them northerners one bit
D A E
He was a rebel and he knew it and he didn't give a shit
D A F#m
We've been talkin' about Dixie and how old times used to be
D A E A
And I've been sittin' up drinkin' with Robert E. Lee

D A F#m
We've been talkin' about Dixie and how old times used to be
D A E A
And I've been sittin' up drinkin' with Robert E. Lee
