Pat Green

Day One

by Pat Green
Pat Green

Biography:

Pat Green was born in San Antonio and raised in Waco, Texas, the eighth of nine siblings. His father was a stage actor, and Green fell in love with the musicals his father acted in.

Green began his musical career when he was 18 and in college at Texas Tech in Lubbock. "I started playing guitar to pick up the chicks," Green laughs. "Before that, I only sang in the shower. I could mimic other people's voices. It took me a long time to find my own voice, but once I did, I became very comfortable with it.

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
G Dsus4/F#
By tomorrow I bet, I could crawl out of bed
Em7 Dsus4/F#
And I might even open the sheets
G Dsus4/F#
And the weekend will fly, and some friends will drop by
Em7 Dsus4/F#
And tell me I'll be ok
G Dsus4/F#
By Tuesday the hurt, won’t keep me from work
Em7 Cadd9
And I'll hide it from everyone
G Cadd9 G
Sounds easy to do if I just get through day one
G Dsus4/F#
In a week or so, all the neighbors will know
Em7 Dsus4/F#
When they don't see a car outside
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Dsus4/F#
By day 17 I won't need a drink, to help me close my eyes
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Cadd9
By day 28 I go out on a date, and she'll think I'm having fun
G Cadd9 G
Sounds easy to do if I just get through day one

[Chorus]
Em
I can't skip the pain
G
I can't stop my mind
Em D
So i’ll just take, one at a time
G Dsus4/F#
It might even be, a year maybe three
Em7 Cadd9
Before the damage comes undone
G Cadd9 G
But i’ll get over you if I just get through day one

[Verse 2]
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Dsus4/F#
By day 45 I won’t have to drive by your house on my way home
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Dsus4/F#
But day 92 if I run into you, It won't kill me if you’re not alone
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Cadd9
By the end of September I bet you remember, how hard this first night was
G Cadd9 G
When it was all I could do to try to get through day one

[Chorus]
Em
I can't skip the pain
G
I can't stop my mind
Em D
So i’ll just take, one at a time
G Dsus4/F#
It might even be more than a year maybe four
Em7 Cadd9
Before the damage comes undone
G Cadd9 G
But i’ll get over you if I can just get through day one

[Verse 3]
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Dsus4/F#
There come a time when the sting of goodbye won’t be hanging in every room
G
Could be Fall, could be Summer
Dsus4/F# Em7 Dsus4/F#
Don’t know the number, but it can’t come too soon

[Chorus]
Em
I can't skip the pain
G
I can't stop my mind
Em D
So i’ll just take, one at a time
G Dsus4/F#
It might even be more than a year maybe four
Em7 Cadd9
Before the damage comes undone
G Cadd9 G
But i’ll get over you if I can just get through day one

[Outro]
G Dsus4/F# Em7 Cadd9
But I see the lesson, call it a blessing when that day finally comes
G Cadd9 G
You’ll just be someone I knew if I just get through day one
