Parquet Courts

Tenderness

by Parquet Courts
Parquet Courts

Biography:

Parquet Courts is a band from New York City. At the center of the group is A. Savage, who at this point is known for his collaborations with projects like Fergus & Geronimo, Teenage Cool Kids and Wiccans. Savage is joined by three other musicians (“three quarters Texans and three quarters Pisces”) and describes the bands’ debut release as THE FALL meets NEIL YOUNG. On the band’s debut release, “American Specialties”, this all makes sense.

[Intro]

D C G D x2

[Verse 1]
G
We've come to replace your clock's old stubborn hands
E E7 E
We are the answer to why they never had a chance
G
It was not so long ago that the world was mostly slow
E E7
The age of iron, steam and speed
E
Turned a stroll to a stampede

[Pre-Chorus]
C E G
But we've come to increase time in between ticks
C A
And there is romance in the slow dances
E
'Cause they're fertile in hush, futile in haste
E
These are your nerves, this is how they taste

[Chorus]
D C
Well I can't count how many times I've been outdone by nihilism
G D
Joined the march that splits an open heart into a schism
D C
And I cower at the thought of other people's expectations
G D
And yet still hand over mine to them

G x2

[Verse 2]
G
Travel where you are, tourism is sin
E E7 E
These are the ruins we left behind, you can't take pictures of them
G
If what they say is true, then you become what you chew
E
If it decays spit it out, affectation is a drought

[Pre-Chorus]
C E G
That you wait through when you hate everything that you do
C A
You wanna live outside the groove, then fine
E
But it's there like a flower blooming in your ears
E
Open up your mouth, pollinate your peers

[Chorus]
D C
Nothing reminds the mind of power like the cheap odor of plastic
G D
Leaking fumes we crave, consume, the rush it feels fantastic
D C
But like power turns to mold, like a junkie going cold
G D
I need the fix of a little tenderness

[Outro]

D C G D x4
