Owsley

Good Old Days

by Owsley
Owsley

Biography:

William Owsley III (March 6, 1966-April 30, 2010), better known by the stage name Owsley, was a power pop singer-songwriter from Anniston, Alabama. Owsley released two albums - "Owsley" (1999) and "The Hard Way" (2004) before his death in 2010.

He was also the lead singer for the power pop group The Semantics and was the guitarist for Amy Grant's band from 1994 to 2010.

It seems like such a phony platitude that doing things the hard way is the most rewarding.

[Intro]
Emaj7 E6 Emaj7 E6 Esus E
[ E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E ] (twice)

[Verse]
Emaj7 E6
I went back home the other day
Emaj7 E6 Esus E [E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E]
To see some old friends that I used to know
Emaj7 E6
It was strange to see what all had changed
Emaj7 E6 Esus E [E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E]
Just like me my hometown had to grow
Emaj7 E6
On lazy Sunday afternoons
Emaj7 E6 Esus E [E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E]
We used to drive around the neighborhood
Emaj7 E6
But as I looked around I see
Emaj7 E6 Esus E B
That nothing really looks the way it should

[Chorus]
D A E B
There's a parking lot where the church used to be
D A E F#
And the old town drunk changed his ways
D A E B
Still my mind goes wandering down memory lane
D A E
Looking round for the good old days

[Instrumental]
Emaj7 E6 Emaj7 E6 Esus E [ E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E ] (once)

[Verse]
Emaj7 E6
My high school sweetheart's married off
Emaj7 E6 Esus E E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E
With two kids and another on the way
Emaj7 E6
And the coach I hardly recognized
Emaj7 E6 Esus E B
His thick black hair has slowly turned to grey

[Chorus]
D A E B
All the debutantes and the homecoming queen
D A E F#
Have taken kids on to raise
D A E B
Still my mind goes wandering down memory lane
D A E
Looking round for the good old days

[Verse]
A E
When I find myself romancing now
B E
The way that it used to be
A E
I can't help thinking someday
B E
That it's coming back to me
A E
But I never was the kind
B D
To see the forest for the trees

[Solo over chorus chord progression]

[Verse]
Emaj7 E6
Looking back on yesterday
Emaj7 E6 Esus E [E - Esus4 - Eadd11 - Esus4 - E]
Never was my favorite thing to do
Emaj7 E6
But that's okay it's just as well
Emaj7 E6 Esus E B
It seems there's less to hold on to

[Chorus]
D A E B
There's a parking lot where the church used to be
D A E F#
And the old town drunk changed his ways
D A E B
Still my mind goes wandering down memory lane
D A E
Well I hope it's a passing phase
B
Oh yeah
D A E
Looking back at the good old days
