We Don’t Grow Tobacco by Old Crow Medicine Show

Transcribed by DWdrummer67.

Note: The A to D and D to Dm transisions in the chorus aren't required.
I added those as a way to follow the vocal cues. They don't play them,
but I like the way it sounds. You can just play an A in the first part
and a D in the second. ENJOY!!

Tuning: Standard (capo 1st fret)

Intro: A, E, A

A
Hardest work that ever I done, bent beneath that burning sun
E A
Hauling that tobacco ‘round to cure
A
I would chop that wicked weed, till our hands and fingers bleed
E A
Working like a mule, maybe more
D A
We've been farming on this land… since eighteen hundred ten
F#m B E
Through flood, drought and pestilence and war
A
Now I sure am sad to say, that I’ve lived to see this day
E A
And we don't grow tobacco ‘round here no more

Chorus:
A D A
We don't grow…, we don't grow
E
Oh, it's still the only work we'll ever know
D Dm A
We don't grow…, we don't grow
E A
We don't grow tobacco ‘round here no more

A
Grandpa told me this I know, change is comin’, won't be slow
E A
Knocking just like a thunder at the door
A
Plowed up fields are all around, empty barns just fallin’ down
E A
Well, Iron weeds comin’ up through the floor
