by Nik Kershaw
Nik Kershaw

Biography:

Nik Kershaw (born Nicholas David Kershaw, 1 March 1958, in Bristol) is an English singer-songwriter. A former jazz-funk guitarist, he was a 1980s teen idol; his 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1984-5 beat all other solo artists at the time. He appeared at Live Aid in 1985, and has penned a number of hits for other artists, including a UK number one single in 1991 for Chesney Hawkes, "The One and Only".

Kershaw played guitar and sang in a number of underground bands from about 1976 before deciding on a career as a songwriter.

Bbm F#
black vinyl man with black plasticised imagination
i got political inclinations to announce
my soul shows art to me, but dollars says my radio

G#m Ebm
more fodder for the new lost generation
but no way, if it doesn't scan with your accounts
wall street liquid lunches showing us the way to go

C#m F#
i got a question to send you to the nearest closet
i got some spiritual ideology for you
why tolerate this numismatical polity?

G# Ebm
why can't you let us do it like JONI does it
i know it's gotta correspond with the corporation view {chorus}
there isn't any other way, there isn't any other way, more's the pity {chorus}

F#
there you go again, giving it your very best, you’re
C#m Ebm
trying so hard to make it sound like all the rest
C# F#
and as your factory sanctifies your wooden soul
G# Ebm
you gave us T.V. dinners, now it's T.V. rock 'n' roll

Chorus 1:
Bbm
we're growing up
F#
we're growing up
Eb G# Eb
to radio musicola

Vs 2
Chorus 2:
Bm G
we're growing up

we're growing up
E D
to radio musicola

[middle 8 or something]

G E
you can find it in the streets
F
you can find it in the elevators
E Am
you can find it where the ladies wash their hands
F
it emanates from little boxes on the wall and it'll
Em A (Dm/Asus) E
soon be coming in disposable tin cans

Chorus 3:
Bm G
we're growing up

we're growing up
A E
to radio musicola
