Natalie Merchant

If No One Ever Marries Me

by Natalie Merchant
Natalie Merchant

Biography:

Natalie Anne Merchant (born October 26, 1963 in Jamestown, New York) is an American alternative rock singer-songwriter. After rising to fame at the helm of the popular folk-rock band 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant enjoyed even greater success as a solo artist during the mid-'90s. Her literate, socially conscious songs established her among the preeminent women in pop music, while her solo debut -- 1995's Tigerlily -- helped pave the way for a number of female performers in a pre-Lilith Fair market.

G C D C G Em

G
Well if no one ever marries me
C
And I don't see why they should
D
Nurse says I'm not pretty
C G Em
And you know I'm seldom good, seldom good

G
Well if no one ever marries me
C
I shan't mind very much
D
I'll buy a squirrel in a cage
C G
And a little rabbit-hutch

C
If no one marries me
Am G D
If no one marries me
C
If no one marries me
Am G D
If no one marries me
Em
Well if no one marries me

G
I'll have a cottage near a wood
C
And a pony all my own
D
A little lamb quite clean and tame
C G
That I can take to town

G
When I'm really getting old
C
At twenty-eight or nine
D
I'll buy myself a little orphan-girl
C G
And bring her up as mine

C
If no one marries me
Am G D
If no one marries me
C
If no one marries me
Am G D
No one marries me
C
Well if no one marries me
Am G D
Marries me
C
Well if no one marries me
Am G D
Marries me
Em
Well if no one marries me
