Montgomery Gentry

She Couldnt Change Me

by Montgomery Gentry
Montgomery Gentry

Biography:

Montgomery Gentry was a country music duo, founded in the 1990s, consisting of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. Eddie Montgomery is the older brother of John Michael Montgomery. Some sources say that Troy Gentry is the son of Bobbie Gentry, which is untrue. Troy's parents are Lloyd and Pat Gentry. Eddie, Troy, and John were in a band called Early Tymz. Eddie and Troy continued to perform after John left to pursue a solo career. The duo went through several name changes before they decided to call themselves Montgomery Gentry.

She Couldn't Change Me
MONTGOMERY GENTRY

This is a correction of my former submission. (The format was scattered
because I used the tab key) Also note that you can drop this into the key
of "E" without any problem, here is the transposition:
F=E ; Bb=A ; C=B ; Dm=C#m
NOTE: The reason it is originally done in "F" is to get a swooping
hammer-on effect* primarily going into the chorus. Also, I used (C) and
(rif) in the chorus to annotate a predominate Bass part.

Intro: F Bb F Bb...
F Bb F
Bb
Sometimes I think what turned her on was my old worn out boots;
F Bb F
Bb
She wanted her a real cowboy, it was a phase she was goin' through.
F Bb F
Bb
Not one week after she moved in I caught her paintin' the bedroom blue;

F Bb F
Bb
Brought home a bottle of Pink Chablis, poured out my best home brew.
C Dm
Bb *
I was sittin' on the porch in my overhauls as she packed her things to
leave;
C
F...............Bb...
She changed her mind when she couldn't change me!
F Bb
She changed direction, headed out west;
F Bb
She changed her tune to some hip-hop mess;
F (C)
Dm Bb*(rif)
Her dark brown hair went to blonde and her pretty blue eyes went
to green:
C
F
She changed everything when she couldn't change me.

Repeat Intro: F Bb F Bb
F F Bb
Bb
She was sittin' beside the ocean,... lookin' out at the waves;
F Bb F
Bb
Watchin' how they keep on rollin',... but always seem the same.
F Bb
F Bb
She called and said she'd been thinkin' about all those quiet country
nights;
F Bb
F Bb
And what-ever she thought was so wrong with me,... suddenly seemed alright.
C Dm
Bb*
I was sittin' on the porch in my overhauls when her truck pulled into
view;
C
F
She said, "I changed my mind when I couldn't change you" .
F Bb
She changed dirrection, headed back home;
F
Bb
She changed her tune, it's all Haggard and Jones;
F (C)
Bb F
Had her dark brown hair pulled back and the bluest eyes you ever
seen:
C F
She changed her mind when she couldn't me!

Solo: (first four-line verse resolving into) Bb...
F Bb
She changed dirrection, she's back in my arms;
F
Bb
She thought it through, but had a change of heart;
F (C)
Dm Bb*(rif)
She said, "I guess when you love someone, you just gotta' let it
be" :
C
F..............Bb
She changed her mind when she couldn't change me...yeah-yeah:
C
F..............Bb F Bb
She changed it all when she couldn't change me...
F.............Bb F Bb F
She couldn't change me!
