Montgomery Gentry

I Never Thought Id Live This Long

by Montgomery Gentry
Montgomery Gentry

Biography:

Montgomery Gentry was a country music duo, founded in the 1990s, consisting of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. Eddie Montgomery is the older brother of John Michael Montgomery. Some sources say that Troy Gentry is the son of Bobbie Gentry, which is untrue. Troy's parents are Lloyd and Pat Gentry. Eddie, Troy, and John were in a band called Early Tymz. Eddie and Troy continued to perform after John left to pursue a solo career. The duo went through several name changes before they decided to call themselves Montgomery Gentry.

G6/A = x02033

[Intro]
Cadd9 G D Cadd9 G D

[Verse 1]
Cadd9 G D
I've treated this ol body like a stolen car,
Cadd9 G D
Just some old disposable machine,
Cadd9 G D
Pedal to the metal and a trail of broken hearts,
Cadd9 G D
Yea I'd fill it up with almost anything,
F G D
My motto was live fast and go out strong,
Cadd9 G D
But I never thought that I'd live this long,

[Verse 2]
Cadd9 G D
Once I had a woman and she treated me real good,
Cadd9 G D
The kinda love I never will replace,
Cadd9 G D
One day I thought I ain't seen the world the way I should,
Cadd9 G D
So one night I got up and steped away,
F G D
I knew there'd be some lonely's commin on,
Cadd9 G D
But I never thought that I'd live this long,

[Chorus]
D Cadd9 G/B
There have been many times I really should have died,
D Cadd9 Cadd9 G/B Cadd9 G/B Cadd9 D
But somehow I survived on my mistakes,
D Cadd9 G/B
They say it makes me stronger, but why does it take longer,
Bb Bb C D
Gettin up these days,

D Cadd9 G/B G6/A D Cadd9 G/B G6/A D

[Verse 3]
Cadd9 G D
Yea I'm old enough to have a few regrets,
Cadd9 G D
I'm still young enough to have my dreams,
Cadd9 G D
Maybe that's the reason that my life ain't over yet,
Cadd9 G D
All the places and faces I ain't seen,
F G D
I probably won't have time to see them all,
Dm Cadd9 D
But then again I never thought I'd live this long,

[Outro]
D Cadd9 G/B G6/A D
