Montgomery Gentry

Back When I Knew It All

by Montgomery Gentry
Montgomery Gentry

Biography:

Montgomery Gentry was a country music duo, founded in the 1990s, consisting of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry. Eddie Montgomery is the older brother of John Michael Montgomery. Some sources say that Troy Gentry is the son of Bobbie Gentry, which is untrue. Troy's parents are Lloyd and Pat Gentry. Eddie, Troy, and John were in a band called Early Tymz. Eddie and Troy continued to perform after John left to pursue a solo career. The duo went through several name changes before they decided to call themselves Montgomery Gentry.

Intro: D A Em G
D A G

VERSE 1

D A Em G
At the ripe old age of nineteen
D A G
I bought a short bed pickup chicks machine
D A Em G
Life ran on beer and gasoline
G A
A half a lap ahead of the law
D A Em G
I had a fake ID that got me into Tuffy’s
D A Em G
Love was a word I used to get lucky
D A G
Was a big time spender with that plastic money
A
Back when I knew it all

CHORUS:

D A G
Back when the world was flat and
D A Em G
Mama and Daddy didn't have a clue
D A G A
Back when a pitcher of beer and a couple shots made me bulletproof
G D/F# G D/F#
Back when God was a name I used in vain to get a point across when
G
I got ticked off
G A
Lord I'm learning so much more...than back when I knew it all

D A Em G
D A G

VERSE 2

D A Em G
I found out credit cards don't mean you're rich
D A G
And beer and gasoline don't mix
D A Em G
Yeah step side trucks can't jump a ditch
G A
And those "big house" rooms sure are small
D A Em G
I've learned that love is a woman that will settle you down
D A G
A Sunday sermon can turn life around
D A G
Man I can't believe all the answers I've found
A
Since ....back when I knew it all

D A G
Back when the world was flat and
D A Em G
Mama and Daddy didn't have a clue
D A G A
Back when a pitcher of beer and a couple shots made me bulletproof
G D/F# G D/F#
Back when God was a name I used in vain to get a point across when
G
I got ticked off
G A
Lord I'm learning so much more...than back when I knew it all

BRIDGE:

Em
I've done some growing up
D/F#
And I'm still growing up
G A
So I know i'll never be as smart as I once was
D
That was back.......

D A G
Back when the world was flat and
D A Em G
Mama and Daddy didn't have a clue
D A G A
Back when a pitcher of beer and a couple shots made me bulletproof
G D/F# G D/F#
Back when God was a name I used in vain to get a point across when
G
I got ticked off
G A
Lord I'm learning so much more...than back when I knew it all
